I think the end piece would work best with no background. The characters are busy enough that the white space balances it all out perfectly.
Very gorgeous work! Their slightly different poses and facial expressions capture their personalities perfectly while maintaining a less than uniform likeness. I also adore your coloring technique.

As much as I love your grunge style of artwork if you want to do it in the same style as the anime I don't think you'll do a bad job. Even if you're shit at now; I'm confident that you can learn the art style and make something great. Even if the end result isn't what you wanted it to look like it's still a learning experience. I have faith in you if means anything.
