edit: I updated the original picture, so I guess there's a step nine...Whole process took me around 10-11 hours, and I switched from SAI to Photoshop between steps 7 and 8.
Some friends asked me for a process of
so here it is! Nothing too fancy, just a step by step

Out of curiousity, how many layers did you use in this... and what computer do you have
I have an apple, but before even trying to use it, I know my sai has only half the features everyone else's has

Woah no! The pen tool in SAI. I only use the pen tool in photoshop for finishing touches.
I swapped in step 8.
It took me....uh....10 hours not including the sketch (which was 20 minutes so I guess it doesn't really count )

Then it's logical to, I also used vector lines to draw when I didn't have one. I can't draw a single straight line with a mouse.. 'orz.

I dunno, I play around with it all the time. Sometimes my hand does whacky things and it won't let me line things properly. So, instead of steadying my hand, I cheat x'D

Oh, you..XDD that's a smart way to go about it, actually. In those cases I just choose a different way to draw, If I can't draw normal lines I paint. ^u^

Not really..when you try you'll see. It's all about color blobs and things will just miraculously shape before your eyes - If you've ever tried sculpting - it's the same thing. ^u^ <3

Color blobs.. just try to feel them more, shape them in your mind imagine how the light would fall over them and give them love. that must've sounded weird.

Well, I also couldn't for a long time, but then I just started and it turned out almost as good as with line-art. :3 It takes time, and it happens at the time when you start seeing all your drawings in 3-D, in a sense, you can imagine something and rotate it in your mind from whatever angle in whatever lighting. ^u^
And if you can already then I guess all you need is courage! <3 For me it has always been the thing that makes me grow the most - taking up courage and trying things you know you've never done before - things you feel that there is 90% chance to fail and only 10% to win. Struggling, seeing that nothing goes the way you want - having that feeling makes you overcome your limits.
