Tong: You’re still keeping this?
Mew: Umm…
Tong: Mew…
Mew: Huh?
Tong: Can you play that song for me?
Mew: Which one?
Tong: The one you played when we were kids.
Mew: Umm… this one?

Playing grandma’s song)

Tong: Someone moved into that place?
Mew: Umm…
Tong: Have you ever seen her here?
Mew: Who?
Tong: Oh no, nothing.
Mew: You haven’t forgotten about her?
Tong, if you have a chance to see Tang again,
what would you say to her?
Tong: I don’t know. I might ask, ‘Why?’
Mew: Why?
Tong: Why did she leave us like that?
Mew: (Sigh) It’s not her fault, Tong.

Another memorable scene in Love of Siam. The first time Tong and Mew bunked together after bumping back into each other, just like their childhood times:

Mew: Do you think June looks like Tang?
Tong: So much so that I get goose pimples.
Mew: Do you think June is Tang?
Tong: It’s impossible. There are many look-a-likes.
So Mew, how have you been?
Mew: Fine. Playing my music is fun.
Tong: But you are alone. Aren’t you lonely?
Mew: Frighteningly lonely.
Tong: What do you mean ‘frighteningly lonely’?
Mew: It’s like when we were younger, we were so
lonely because we didn’t have lots of friends. Now
that we’ve grown up, loneliness seems just so
much worse.
Tong: Why is it so bad for you?
Mew: I don’t know how to explain it. It started during the
summer when I was in 8th grade. Papa took
grandma somewhere for several days, and the day
she came back…

Grandma: I heard that when I was away, you were so
stubborn…

(Grandma passed away soon after)

Mew: It’s not easy at all because the longer my grandma
is gone, the more I miss her. So, I have a
question… if we can love someone so much, how
will we be able to handle it one day when we are
separated?

If being separated is a part of life, and you know
about separation well, is it possible Tong… that we
can love someone and never be afraid of losing
them?

At the same time, I am also wondering, is it
possible that we can live our entire life without
loving anyone at all? That’s my loneliness. I have
lived with it now for 5 years, I know just how bad
loneliness feels. I fear it will continue to get worse.
Tong: Mew…
