To be honest, I think the FF7 Remake is only a year or two away. Usually trailers are shown towards the end of a game's or movie's development, and we have a gameplay trailer for this game already. Also I believe FF7's 20th Anniversary is just around the corner, so it would make sense to pay homage to the original next year.

I believe it makes sense for the 20th anniversary.
But, FFversus-13's (now FF15) original trailer was shown in 2006, and it has yet to come out..
So I don't necessarily trust that Square is always smart about showing their trailers when their games are towards 'the end of development'

You have a point there. My theory works in the best case scenario. But I did just hear today, from a Gamestop Employee, that there's a chance the FF7 Remake will be released this year (which would be awesome if I could save up the money). So basically I hope it's either this year or the next, but we shouldn't be surprised if it's 3 to 5 years down the line.

Yep, I hope its sooner. Especially if they are releasing it in episodes I hope the first one is soon. And the gap between is very short...

Me too, although I never heard anything about making it episodic. I would prefer if it was a full game like the original, but I had fun in episodic games like the Games of Thrones game and the Back to the Future game.

That's interesting. In that case, I wouldn't mind the episodes too much as long as they keep the full story. I will most likely not have the money to buy a PS4 and the game at the same time or on the first day of it's release (let alone any pre-orders). So there could be 2 or 3 episodes out before I get the game.

Funny, this is probably why SE is splitting up the game so we won't be kept waiting, I'm more worried about the game being censored in some places and SE not localizing the other FF7 games/materials for the rest of the world.

The combat looks like something between FF10-2's combat and FF13's combat. There is a bit of Crisis Core, but is leans more towards the two former.

I felt like it was leaning more towards how the FF15 demo was, but its a little hard to tell from how short the battle segments were there.. I just hope we are able to control multiple characters like the original game.

I personally think the combat looks like a mix between Kingdom Hearts, Crisis Core, Final Fantasy 13, and Final Fantasy 15. It looks like there's a gauge for the limit break and command set up with Attack, Magic, Summon, and Items. There was also a third person view for Barret, so it's possible that you get to play with multiple characters. I just hope there's a battle system based on Materia like the original game, but either way I'm curious about the Weapon battles. For the Ultimate Weapon, you fought him in the airship. The Ruby Weapon has those tentacles and his whirlpool attack, and the Emerald Weapon is under water.

It does seem like its going to be different, and I'm okay with that. I just really really hope the Materia system is in it and works the same.

I have the same mindset. The Materia system was fun to work with, but a lot of Materia was made for turn based systems like All and W-summon. From pausing the trailer though, it does look like it has a similar command based Hud to Kingdom Hearts and other Real-time games like it. And I saw three gauges; Two looked like the HP and MP gauges, but the third looked like a Limit gauge. If the battles are like FF13, I wouldn't mind it that much as long as it has materia.
