Description Since I haven't been able to pull together any new shots, I thought I'd post this one. I'm not crazy about this as is suffers from too little exposure that has resulted in considerable color noise, but it's the best I was able to put together this past year and it will be months until M31 is in a favorabel position again so that I can re-shoot it. I took the exposures for this RGB composite last September.

Hmyes, I think with your possibilities you could make an image which should rock quite a lot more
Anyway, this shot is not bad. Depends on the point of view, I know, I'm very critical about my images too

Yes, I have taken all of the pictures in my galaxy. There's a picture of my set up in my scraps folder.

Well thank you. I guess I tend to be extremely critical of things that I make. Now your going to tax my memory - let's see. I used a Takahashi FSQ106 APO refractor (qudruplet flourite Petzval design) mounted on a Losmandy G11 Gemini German equatorial mount with an SBIG ST10MXE CCD camera. This is a single frame, not a mosaic. The FSQ has a wonderfully big field of view. I took exposures through red, green and blue filters (R 8x180 seconds, B 8x180 sec, G 8x180) and combined them into a color image in MaximDL. I did DDP in Maxim and all other processing in Photoshop CS (levels, curves, color balancing). 24 minutes each for the red, green and blue borders on a snap shot in astrophoto terms. I really wanted to get a lot more color data, at least 3 times more and also luminence data. I will attempt this incredible galaxy when it is near the zenith again.

well personally i dont know that much about constelation (i dont even know if i spellt that right) phototaking...
actually i know nothing about it..

BUT i like this picture...a lot.

i like looking at it and the feeling of being small is very overwhelming

That's a big part of what draws me to astrophotography...the sense of scale and the beauty of the Universe of which we are a very small part.

indeed...and i can completely understand that...i can get stuck just staring at the stars on a clear summers night....its amazing how small we really are.
