Description A very fun picture to draw. I put a bit of effort into this. Or I would like to think so. anyway. I really like my Samurai and Ninja, they make a good team.

I need some suggestions on shading, I've never been good at it, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I like the pic, very dynamic

For the specifics it depends on what style you're aiming for. No matter the style though the best way to learn is to try it. Don't try half heartedly, jump in the deep end. It may look crap at first but you'll learn faster.

looks like you've got the gyst/idea of the shading pretty nicely, you just need to push it a little further. More shading, darker darks. Creating more contrast will give you a more dimensional image.

Your characters look really nice

i really like the drawing for the shading thing, try picturing where like the sun is and from what angle its shining down on them.. i hope that kind of helps lol or look at pictures of ppl and see where the shadows and highlights are then try it out on a drawing! hope that helped

This looks like it's coming along nicely! For shading, pick one or two (one would probably be best for now) definite light source and if you can make a copy so you don't ruin the original lineart until you've decided what you're doing, then you can block out the parts. First, you'll have the highlights. What will the light hit exactly? Keep these areas clean of any pencil marks so you keep the white from the paper. Then you need what will be completely blocked from the light. These will be in the darkest shade, and will be the darkest on your paper. You'll then have the mediums where the light will gradually fade to shadow. In these areas, you can use a blender like a paper stomp or tissue paper to get that gradual effect. Try and keep the shading textures different between the skin tones and clothing, because the light will hit them differently. Hope this helps!

You did a great job!
I like how you kept it simple and didnΒ΄t overdo it. really goes well along with the rest of the picture.

Just one thing, itΒ΄s not your question, but still.. the nose of the ninja looks a bit wierd for me.. just a feeling though, maybe if you decrease itΒ΄s size a bit.. but i donΒ΄t really know, IΒ΄m not skilled enough.
Keep up the good work, dozou yoroshiku

Thanks, you're totally right though. His nose does look a bit off, I'm okay with it though. I'm afriad if I erase it and do it over then it will just look worse. haha

IΒ΄ve done the same mistakes in the past xD .. like erasing something.. redoing it.. and wishing the old pic back.

to me, the shading looks great i always loved how cross hatching looks but i've never treied it. lol i actually don;t see anything wrong. there's realistic folds in the clothing, the anatomy looks good, its very detailed, just an overall really nice piece!

Thank you so much! I'm not familiar with the term "cross hatching" what does this mean?

well , i think the line art is perfect , but you need two things :
#1 a good scanner
#2 colours

It looks good and pretty anatomic. Congracts! Anatomy is pretty difficult.
I think shadings are just fine, but the draw could look more atractive if you puted more colors or use a more elaborated scaner. A tablet is also a good way of ilustrating. D
