I always have to ask this question, because people seem to have differing views on what this declaration means:
"Can what?"

we can make a change. At the time of the elections, McCain's campaign was sounding a little too much like Bush's that is not what this country needs.

Yes, I understand the message of change. But my point that I am trying to bring up is that, for the most part, people fit their expectations of what that change will be to their hopes.
It's not really a criticism of President Obama, or a political statement. Rather I am trying to point out flaws in people's thinking that they may be overlooking.
"Yes we can!"
"Can what?"
"Can change!"
"Change to what?"
After this last question, I notice that many people start having many varied responses that don't always agree with each other, yet they initially think they are talking about the same thing. That's my only point.

Well, what else can you change, do, or say if it isn't something that you hope to change, do, or say differently? What else would you like people to change, do, or say, that people haven't already "hoped" to change, do, or say?
The first step in going about something differently, is believing and hoping for something to one day change.
And honestly, did you think everyone was going to have the same responses that agreed with each other? That's you assuming that everyone was thinking the same thing.
And of course people were going to fit their expectations of what that change will be to their hopes. How else are they going to get things that needed to be done and corrected, not only in their lives but their neighbors, or the people down their street, or even world wide? You think the president is thinking, "Hmm, I think this neighborhood is having problems with this and that..." No, he isn't. There isn't any "flaws" in anyone's thinking. These are regular people, who want things to change in their world.
People want many things to change, of course. So, when you ask someone to answer the question, "Change to what?" you'll get dozens of answers. Why? Because the statement, "Yes We Can!" is not a phrase that is meant for just one opinion or answer.
Think of it this way. When you want something very much and you aren't sure if you are going to get it or not, the first thing you would say is, "I 'hope' I get it."

I'm sorry, but that's a big long non-statement you made.
"That's you assuming that everyone was thinking the same thing."
No, I know people didn't mean the same thing. That's my point, is that everyone thinks THEY are speaking of the same thing.
"Well, what else can you change, do, or say if it isn't something that you hope to change, do, or say differently? What else would you like people to change, do, or say, that people haven't already "hoped" to change, do, or say?"
What does that mean? There is no substance to that statement. I can change my underwear, and to do so, I must first want to. "YES! I CAN CHANGE! ...my underwear!"
Simply changing doesn't mean that what you change should be changed, nor does it mean you are changing to something better.
Again, I am not arguing for or against Obama here. I AM arguing that people who swoon over this slogan are inherently not thinking.
I don't mean any disrespect, but your "arguments" only make me more convinced of this assertion.

Geez, you don't know if they think they are thinking the same thing. You don't anything for that matter. Seems to me you are just throwing out arguments, just to argue a point, that you aren't getting anywhere with.
And if you didn't understand my statement, I worry about your mental cabality. Or, do you wish for me to break it down, and then reduce it for you? Want me to make it into a one line explanation? Want me to teach you 2+2=4 as well?
Simply changing doesn't mean that what you can change should be changed? Oh, so, you want it to jsut stay there and do nothing and hope for the best? Way to fail. And you can only know if it would change for the better if you, drumroll...change it. If it's not something good, guess what? You, drumroll again, change it again.
And thank you for proving my point genius. If you didn't want to change your underwear, would you take them off? No, you wouldn't, unless you wanted to change them. Yeah, try something better. That example isn't helping you any bit.
Again, you don't know what people are thinking until you ask them and get details. It's called elaboration. You don't just go up to someone and ask, "Yes we can!"
"Can what?"
"Can change!"
"Change to what?"
You get an answer and you continue asking them questions to that answer. But you didn't, because once you got an answer, that was it for you and you called it a day, and then you dubbed them, saying that they "are inherently not thinking." Are you fucking kidding me? How stupid.
I do mean to disrespect, because the only one who is, "inherently not thinking," is you. You are just one of those people that tries to make a point across without but isn't getting far.
Try actually talking to people and getting better and more detailed answers before you try to "speak" for others.

Well, that made no sense in what you said.
How do you know if people were thinking the same thing? And if they are, what's your point? If they aren't, so what?
They don't have to think the same thing. Not many do in the first place.
Do you want everyone to think of one thing, at the same time? And how do you know if the people aren't thinking the same thing as the president?

"How do you know if people were thinking the same thing? And if they are, what's your point? If they aren't, so what?"
Good grief, do you speak English? I NEVER SAID THEY THINK THE SAME THING!!! Read what I write or stop arguing!
I said that they think that they think the same thing. ...take note... those words repeated for a reason, it wasn't a mistake.
Okay, I'll spell it out nice and slow:
Bob thinks that "Yes we can" means "We will stop racism," and he thinks that Jill is thinking that "Yes we can" means "We will stop racism" too.
Jill thinks that "Yes we can" means "We will balance the budget," and she thinks that Bob thinks that "Yes we can" means "We will balance the budget" too.
NEITHER ONE thinks the same thing...AT ALL. BUT THEY DON'T KNOW THAT!
I hope you grasp this very simple concept. For it's the only point I was making in the first place.
I am tiring of debating with someone who obviously is not taking the time to really consider what I am arguing...probably not really reading it very closely either.
Please, next time you want to debate a topic, listen to your opposition--At least so you know what the person's talking about. If I am saying I dislike green cars, don't sit there and tell me how great green apples are! I'm not debating apples, I'm debating cars. If I am talking about people's thought processes...get that? PROCESSES... don't tell me about their opinions of a political topic. I'm not debating people's opinions. I'm debating their thought processes.
Have I been offensive and rude? Yes, yes I have. Guess what? You insult me when you argue without trying to understand what I am talking about!
And with that, I am done discussing this with you. Period, end of story.

My god woman, are you this idiotic? You're telling me youdidn't say, "yet they initially think they are talking about the same thing. That's my only point."
You are an imbecile. I think you need to read your own typing before you type foolish, dead-brain comments.
Now let me get on your level, the retarded level. Because intelligence doesn't seem to be sticking. Now, i'm insulting you.
I mean, what the fuck? You said that both people in your example don't know if they are thinking the same thing or not? How the fuck do you know if they are or aren't thinking the same thing? Hmm, you don't. You aren't psychic, you don't know what the hell, they are thinking. Get a clue.
Now, you can come on here with these stupid ass comments, trying to act all smart and everything, but all you are doing is making yourself look like a moron.
And you can't claim you are talking about others people thought processes. You don't have a fucking clue about what they are thinking. You aren't in their shoes. You don't live their lives. You don't know a damn thing. So, when you move up to my level, a Psychology AND a Sociology graduate school student. Then you can start saying that you are, "debating their thought processes." because if you were, you would know exactly what they are thinking. But again, you don't. You are just waste of time, trying to make your point. All you are doing, is stating what you think is going on with everyone else. Ask questions before you open that mouth of yours.
And no one fucking insulted you. You took it the wrong way, like an unprofessional, uneducated, child.
What, just because someone is debating with you, now it's insulting? Grow up. The only one who insulted anyone previously, was you.
Are you offensive? Yes. Why? Because you do not have any other way to prove your point, because you aren't getting anywhere. You are repeating the same things over and it still doesn't make any sense.
Now, go back to school and get a better education before you try having debates with someone.

And stop bringing up topics that aren't being discussed.
This is about a picture, not what the person in the picture is saying. Go somewhere else with your idiotic views.
