Specifications were that it had to be black/blue and represent a broken heart. I've sat on wanting to do the contest for a while, trying to think of something perfect. I decided to do a drawing of a shattered doll. I chose a doll, not only to represent a broken heart, but also to represent how people often feel in situations where their heart is broken, as if they were treated like a child's plaything, only to be tossed away when they were no longer "perfect", or set on the shelf whenever the one who broke their heart no longer had interest in spending time with them.

I also chose to do this drawing in black and blue ball point pen in tribute to 's amazing work - which is the medium she usually uses. By the way, I highly recommend checking out her work. Her ball point pen art is breathtakingly amazing... well, all her art is, but I really fell in love with her art because of the ball point pen work she does. XD

The title? I was listening to the radio while I was working on this piece when O.A.R.'s song, Shattered, had come on. I had already decided to title the piece "shattered", but that one line in the song really hit me while I was working on the piece, and I felt it would represent the drawing well.
