~Moments passed as Kira, exhausted, waited for someone, anyone, to come to her aid. Tears began to stream from Kira's emerald green eyes as the cold realization that no one would answer her plea at this time of night set in. Turning in exasperation, Kira pressed her back against the door and sank to sit on the cold, wet stairs.
“I'm sorry, little one,” Kira said quietly as she peered inside her cloak at the small bundle of silver-gray fur that lay hidden in her arms. Frowning, Kira slid her hand underneath the bundle, to examine her aching side. She gritted her teeth against the pain as her fingers brushed the damp, sticky cloth of her dress that surrounded the wound. Withdrawing her hand and seeing it to be coated with blood, Kira sighed heavily, closing her eyes and leaned her head back against the door. I need more time, she prayed. I need to save this child... Resolve setting in, Kira thought of one last chance. Even if she did not make it, this child would have a chance. ~
