Thank you, I was lucky on this one, he was only 6 feet away and froze in place trying to hide.

Thank you, sometimes it seems like it goes in waves...I'll have a few shoots I feel mediocre about and then something random shows up and I get lucky on one or two.

Most things have their ups and downs, and I can see that, but I don't think it's luck. I can also see steady improvement through time.

You guys have those neat ones with the tufted ears don't you? We have four kinds of squirrels here, this is the red fox squirrel which gets a bit larger, and then we have a small gray squirrel variety as well. We also have chipmunks AKA ground squirrels, and there is a rare flying squirrel in our area as well but we don't see those very often. They have flaps of skin between their arms and can kind of parachute and glide from branch to branch.

I think I remember seeing one in school, we had a wildlife biologist bring one in for a demonstration or something like that, that was a long time ago!

I believe this one was a rescued one, by state animal scientists that they used for educational purposes.

Maybe it's a local thing, we are pretty hands on with our nature education, which is a good thing I think. For the kids to see and touch in person, makes it more real to them maybe and more willing to care about it in the future perhaps?

Yeah I think that might be universal.

We've had the heat too, our hay fields look so poor right now, I saw a rabbit packing his lunch across it the other day.

It's strange, most times I have better luck getting closer to the deer and squirrels in town where they aren't quite so wild.
