Hindsight can be a beautiful thing
I just read how Alafady was born late November 2018, meaning beautiful Holly was quite pregnant when we took this photo!
But, as we post this photo almost 2 years after it was taken, it is also a sad realization that she passed away two months ago now...
Species: Crowned Sifaka (Kroonsifaka)
Latin name: Propithecus Coronatus
Originates from western Madagascar.
Current status: Endangered
Did you know:
…The Crowned Sifaka is a medium-sized Lemur; it is up to a meter (40 inches) in length, of which 47-57 centimeters (18.5- 22.4 inches) are tail – meaning their tail is as long as their body.
…For a long time, it was believed the Crowned Sifaka was a subspecies of either Verreaux’s Sifaka or Von Der Decken’s Sifaka but is considered a valid species as of 2007.
…Color variations are possible in Crown Sifakas but occur more commonly in the lower regions of the Sifakas’ range between the Mahavavy and Manombolo rivers. Melanistic forms have been documented, with most occurrenses observed where the southern limit of its range overlaps with that of the Von Der Decken Sifaka.
