…The Bald Eagle is of course, not actually bald, but it’s name derives from an older meaning, namely “white headed”.
…Both sexes are similar in plumage –though immature birds are brown – but the females are larger than the males.
…In the late 20th century, the Bald Eagle was on the brink of extirpation (extinct in its chosen geographic area, but still existing elsewhere) but has recovered in a matter of 12 years, from Endangered, to Threatened, and since 2007 has been removed from the endangered and threatened list in most states.
