This is so brilliantly done. I love the colours. It kind of looks like he's made of fire.

really? wow. thank you ...

to be honest, i've been kind of discouraged lately. i've been trying to learn new things and it's been tough making progress. i'd love to paint like you, ~clijoco and =one-eyed-cat . i greatly admire all of your styles, as well as the ideas you continue to explore.

Clijoco is my closest friend. We go back a long way. The secret is in finding the balance between formal elements and the idea. Those ideas can be intangible. Source references from everywhere. MRI scans, Greek armour etc. Make the ideas purely visual and evolve them by making the work.

i have a lot of ideas, but it seems like they're all waiting for the right time to manifest. and by that i mean becoming more skilled with the different mediums i want to work with. it takes time to learn and become proficient. i never really painted in school; i wish i did because i want to so badly now.

i like your advice. i try to find that balance more and more in what i do. it's funny -- in the past, i used to have a really low opinion of abstract or minimalist art. i thought it was a refuge for unskilled artists. and now when i look over my own work from just a year ago i see all the detail and all the intricacies and none of it says anything. i mean, i still appreciate hyper realistic artwork, it's just that for me there is nothing beneath the surface.

and i like digging.

To do abstraction well takes great skill and courage. It's like inventing a new language from scratch. But it's worth it. It's the equivalent of instrumental music. It still has to have an internal logic that's readable to every viewer. Just take your time and allow the work to evolve. It won't happen overnight. Painting is an old man's game! Cool!! The colours really make it jump out! I didn't see the face at first, then I was like "woah!"
