This is probably the most background you'll ever see me draw.
By the way, I love how Stars of Fire sounds, so thank you all my watchers who came up with the name!

When Prince Arctic was younger, his mother was always off in war campaigns. Left behind to be raised by uncaring Icewing royals, courtiers, and dragons hoping to gain the Queen's approval, Arctic grew colder and colder from his tribe, pushing him to eventually flee with Foeslayer. Queen Diamond's return did not help young Arctic's attitude; her desire to suddenly impose "motherly love" over a son who barely even knew her infuriated Arctic. Him being an animus made Diamond fuss over him even more. She enforced rules to keep her only dragonet from losing his soul, like how she slowly was. The control and inattention made him grow into the cold and moody Arctic that Snowflake was meant to marry, but the kind and loyal one that Foeslayer saw under his sheet of ice.
After Arctic eloped with Foeslayer, the facade of Arctic's loving relationship with his mother and his tribe was maintained with the only portrait painted of them two together. Diamond had just returned, and a moody 3 year old Arctic was forced to stand in the snow, his mother's long cape hitting him in the face, and lengths away from burning himself on his mother's lightsaber. Arctic's disapproving stare was forever immortalized as generations of Icewings were shown the only portrait of him and the Queen.
