Description Olivia's funeral was in the church, the hole for her coffin was already dug, and it was snowing outside. People were crying and hugging, trying to comfort one another. All Jack could do was stand at the back, watching his sisters funeral.

He knew she was probably to only person in the family to believe in him, probably the only person in the world. She didn't really believe in 'Jack Frost' the winter spirit that decorated windows at night and brought snow.

She had believed that her brother would never stop watching over and protecting her. When she was old enough to feel she no longer needed his protection, she knew he would protect her children and grandchildren.

As he watched the funeral he was not sure what to feel. He was sad over the loss of his sister, of course, but realized that he would not even be here if not for the man in the moon. He could not help but wonder why he had been brought back.

No one could see him, so why bother having him be there at all? Winter had done just fine bringing snow and frost before he had died. It had been painful, only being able to watch as his family grew and died, unable to do anything.

It was more painful knowing that winter often killed people. He was not in control of all the storms, and often he would stumble onto people who had gotten lost in a blizzard. If he was able to touch them he could lead them back to a town. If he was warm instead of ice cold he could keep them from dying. Instead he could simply watch.

What was the point of bringing fun to kids when they could not see him, and he would never be able to play either? He tried to avoid thoughts like this, but having found out that his sister had believed in him all along was too much. He wished he could have just died and gone to heaven after rescuing his sister. Then he would have been able to watch her grow and would be with her now.

"Not matter what, I'll always remember you" He promised to his sister as she was lowered Β into the ground.

-----

That night Jack was sitting on the roof of Olivia's house, and Sandy came to find him. He had been passing over the village and spotted the spirit, more depressed then usual.

Jack looked up as Sandy floated down, sitting next to him, but looked away so he would not see the questions the golden man asked.

They sat like that for almost an hour, and Sandy made no move to try and get Jacks attention, he simply sent dreams off and waited until Jack was ready.

"My sister died" Jack finally said, "I didn't even know she was sick until the day it happened." Jack paused, not sure how to continue, "When my parents died a few years back, it was painful, but not as much as this. I was her big brother, I should have been able to do something"

Sandy put a hand on Jacks shoulder, causing the immortal to look at him. No pictures appeared above his head, but Jack knew what he was thinking from the sad look in his eyes.

With a sigh, Jack stood up, "The worst part is, she believed in me, and I didn't even know. I would give anything to have been able to spend just one day more with my sister."

Sandy nodded, saying he understood.

"I just wish I knew-" Jack started, but cut himself off, with a sigh he continued, "Sandy, you, the Easter bunny, and a bunch of others can be seen by children. They walk right through me, like I wasn't there." Jack looked up at the moon, with a glare this time, "I feel so confused, I want to be able to spend time with people, but I want to be left alone at the same time."

Sandy was about to say something, but Jack flew off. He didn't want to cry in front of the only person that listened to him. Jack felt that the Sandman was the only one that he would ever have to talk to, but knew that Sandy could never understand the pain he was going through.

It was not just his sister, he had spent more then half a century trying to get even one child to notice him, but it never happened. He needed to be alone to think.

----

As the years past Jack continued to try everything to get children to believe in him, but still none did. He started snowball fights, decorated windows, brought snow-days when that became a 'thing' but still, not one child saw him.

Jack liked to annoy the Easter bunny, since he was so full of himself, and knew the spring spirit hated his guts for it. He spent less time with Sandy then he had before his sister died, they got together every now and again, but it wasn't the same. Jack had not met many other spirits, though he heard of them.

He found the leprechaun annoying, kids believed in a tiny man in a green suit that kept gold lying around, but thought he was just an expression. How was that fair?

Jack was beginning to think kids would never believe in him, that maybe he had done something wrong, when the guardians tried to recruit him.

I will! And yeah, it is! My family usually has Christmas at my Grandpa's house (that would mean most of my uncles, aunts, cousins, and yep. Of my mom's side though. I have like, an uncle and a grandma on my dad's side..) This time it's gonna be at my uncle's girlfriend's I think. And again at my aunts We have a kids and an adults gift exchange, its fun. (I wish I could get to see my second and third cousins, great aunts, uncles, everyone, but meh. You get what you get, haha XD)

Yeah, when I have Christmas with my mom it's at our house, when I have it with my dad it's at his or my grandma's.

This year it's at my mom's, in total I think around... 15 or so? No aunts, uncles, cousins, or even grandparents there though, we have Christmas parties with my grandma and great grandma later, and with my moms step-mom later still.

Me and my three sisters had a gift exchange with our dad earlier in the month, he took gifts back for grandparents. If it was at his house there would be... between 9 and 17? depending on who came.

btw, thanks for another fave
