stifflebutts are beings that manifest the sadness or depression of their owners. they help the users come to terms with their sadness, providing comfort and support much like a service animal.
they're always small, have gemstones along the skin to act like stress stones, and are very squishy and sturdy to be snuggled and cuddled vigorously. stifflebutts cannot be simply traded off like a shirt or a shoe - they will heal, mend, and stay as long as long as the owner's condition remains.
