I think that there wasn't a jungle there until right at that moment, when it sprang into existence for the sole purpose of Zoro getting lost in it, that is how bad his sense of direction is that it warps reality.

you know, Instead of giving Zoro a cake for his birthday, the crew should get him a compass that CAN'T break! Had a necklace and everything. So he wouldn't end up in the mysterious Jungle in a desert country!
