Description - Planet Of The Apes (2001).   I know it's called a re-imagining and not a remake but i'm adding this movie anyway, since it's one of my favorites and one that is sadly misunderstood,  it's not as bad as everyone keeps making it out to be and the makeup effects are pretty rad.
-  Cat People (1982).  The concept of the 'werecats' in this remake being incestuous and that they transform if they have sex with a human or someone who isn't related to them is a very interesting take on it,  plus the transformation scene is awesome and the score as well as the soundtrack in general - especially that David Bowie song.
- The Fly (1986).  This is one of the horror remakes I feel that is better than the original,  because we get to see poor Seth Brundle slowly losing his mind and his humanity and slowly mutating into a grotesque human/insect hybrid as opposed to the original where the main character comes out with a fly's hand and arms while the fly ends up with his arms and head and a high-pitched voice.  Plus, it's got one hell of a score.  Also, check out the song 'Help Me' by Bryan Ferry that was originally going to be on the soundtrack..it can be heard in the background during the arm-wrestling scene.
-  The Thing (1982). This remake totally upped the stakes by making it so the titular Thing can turn into anything and that it can be anything and anyone which adds to the paranoia factor,  also like with the Fly remake it totally surpasses the original which was a campy b-movie.
-  Little Shop Of Horrors (1986) -  I know it's based off a musical,  but I just had to add it to this list.
-  Oscar (1991).  Oscar is not only a remake of a 1967 film,  but it's also based on a play.  As I mentioned in my Underrated Movies list and several other lists,  it's an underrated comedy gem that is directed by John Landis and stars Sly Stallone...I know that action movie stars doing comedy is frowned upon these days but still...Sly actually pulled it off in this movie.  Most people know Sly for under-dog or action hero roles but he actually has stepped outside of that territory a few times like playing an overweight cop in the movie Copland and also in this movie he plays a mob-boss who makes a promise to his dying father (Kirk Douglas) that he'll go 'straight' and give up crime,  of course things don't go as planned for him.   One little touch that I like about this is that Snap's daughter's bedroom has Beatrix  Potter characters on the wallpaper, in particular Samuel Whiskers.  For those not in the know Samuel Whiskers is a huge,  portly anthropomorphic rat who lives in the attic with his wife and they roll up kittens and turn them into pudding...i'm not even joking there,  they actually try to eat Tom Kitten in the story and in the animated adaptation.   The rat you see in this movie?  That's him.   Also,  Snap's relationship with his daughter Lisa and how he reacts to Lisa's new boyfriend kind of reminds me a lot of Dracula's relationship to his daughter Mavis in Hotel Transylvania.  (also check out the behind the scenes video which has Sly doing the moonwalk).  Fun fact: This was filmed on the Disney MGM Studios lot.
-  The Stepford Wives (2004).  A lot of the SJW types would probably be complaining a LOT about this remake due to how offensive they may find it to be for both genders but despite this...it's actually pretty good and despite all of the bad-luck and what not including the production troubles,  I still find it to be quite entertaining.  Plus it's got Christopher Walken in it,  it's just too bad his character turns out to be an android though...because he's just so charming in this.  I like that it's filmed in the neighborhood that Walken himself grew up in.
- The Nutty Professor (1996).  There really isn't much to say about the original 60's film since it's basically about Jerry Lewis playing a nerdy, socially awkward teacher who gets picked on a lot and invents a potion to turn himself into a ladies man just to impress a woman he has a crush on,  nothing much really except that the character inspired Professor Frink from The Simpsons,  the remake on the other hand is an improvement - for one thing it makes the lead character relatable...Eddie Murphy's Sherman Klump is yes...a teacher/professor,   but the reason he's given such a raw deal is because he's overweight and he's the butt of the joke because of it and he invents himself a potion that not only gives him a new alter-ego but also helps him lose weight,  unlike the original however the alter-ego is a complete dickhead but in the most hilarious and charismatic way.   Plus,  the transformations in this one...wow...those are all mind-blowing,  not to mention that we actually do feel sorry for Sherman.  Speaking of which,  Eddie Murphy plays the entire Klump family - well except for the kids.
-  King Kong (2005).  This was the movie I wanted to see instead of The Lion,  The Witch And The Wardrobe because i'm a fan of Peter Jackson in particular the Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit movies,   this movie did not disappoint me when I saw it and I LOVE it to pieces as I feel this is one of the best remakes in the modern era of movies.   I know Blockbuster Buster has issues with Jack Black as Carl but I didn't mind Jack Black in this role and also yes...i've seen the clips of the Goosebumps movie and I think he's going to be awesome as R.L Stine,  plus Andy Serkis providing the motion capture for the titular big gorilla is spectacular.  Fun fact: One of my closest relatives actually was with my mother when they met Jack Black at a museum over here in New Zealand.
-  Night Of The Living Dead (1990).  It's hard to top the original but Savini did it...hats off to him too,  as this total ups the ante.
-   Dawn Of The Dead (2004).
-  The Blob (1988).
-   The Wolfman (2010).

Great list.

But The Thing wasn't a "remake" of The Thing from Another World, it's a separate adaptation of the 1938 book Who Goes There by John Campbell and a more faithful adaptation than the earlier film was.

Indeed it was, it should be viewed as it's own film.
