So...I'm kind of obsessed with all the captain first mate relationships in OP and the awesome captain legacy of Roger-Shanks-Luffy (which indirectly creates a first mate connection between Rayleigh-Beckman-Zoro! gah! I could go on for hours...I think about this ALL THE TIME) But anyway...This was a result of my ponderings. I tried to factor in all sorts of things about how I view their relationships (the way everyone ended up facing had to do with how I think of the first mate-captain duos functioning, I wanted to try and capture some of the height differences, etc) and it's all tied together by this neat and tidy little exchange from that fabulous 1984 film, Buckaroo Bonzai (don't judge me XD):"Why me?"
"Because you're perfect."
"You do have a point there."

These wondrous men belong to Oda! The majestic -cough- film from which I borrowed these very appropriate lines belongs to Sherwood Productions.

Ooh! I just noticed how lovely and flyaway Rayleigh's hair is~ So cool. And Roger and that grin of his... He looks more like he should be related to Luffy than Dragon does...
Zoro should smile more often. I bet Luffy would agree.

Ha ha! XD Thank you! I love Rayleigh's hair so I'm delighted to hear that you liked how it turned out! :3 I agree that Luffy resembles Roger much more than he does Dragon... XD It's somehow fitting though...for that matter, Dragon doesn't really look like Garp either...those D's XD Such a conundrum.
Lol on Zoro. I love how many people are picking up on his lack of smile. XD He usually looks pretty frightening when he smiles, but on the SUUUUPER rare occasion that he smiles and doesn't look like a psycho-killer it's it all the more meaningful because it's so rare... :3 Ah Zoro.

Yeah, it's very weird- Luffy and Garp look more like Roger, while Ace has more than a few features in common with Dragon. I have to theorise that they're all related relatively closely- within a few generations, anyway. Even Teach has similarities...
Yeah, I have to agree- Zoro doesn't have a face that lends itself well to smiling all the time... But when all the factors are right, it's pretty special. Mind you, the psycho-killer smiles are pretty special too, but in a completely different way!

Awwwww! >3 (I've been savoring this response as well XD) I'm so glad you like the concept and composition...at some point I need to go back and correct Zoro's eye since in his first appearance on the color spread it was on the wrong side and I drew it before he showed up in the manga. I'm glad it's on the left side instead of the right...if it wasn't he'd be just like Silvers! XD Anyways, I'm glad you like the connection between these six too!

Yes, I noticed that too! (in fact, I was so excited, because it seemed that Zoro and Sanji had the same eye covered! 9__9 Alas!) Poor Zoro, I wonder what happened to him!
I do agree with you, One Piece has become deeper and deeper, and now is so full of those particular connections... it's such a wonder!
