Not a macro lens at all, I don't have one. I used a regular 18-55 mm lens and then the add-on.

Well, noise is difficult to remove, once you get it.... I've had a lot of problems with it, also, so I know ^^

Can't tell you much, but usually the higher-class cameras produce less noise even at high ISO-s (especially the newer models). A friend of mine recently got himself an EOS 5D and he said it produces visible noise only at its highest ISO values, somewhere over 8000 or 10000. As a whole I think DSLR-s are way ahead in this respect as they incorporate higher and new technologies.... which makes them ahead in every respect, as a matter of fact ^^
