And sometimes it's not worth it.Β Would rather be the sidekick or backup man to the main character.Β And that's the original Nintendo he's playing on.Β My wife spent 24 hours one weekend to beat 'Noba Naga's (sic) Ambition'.Β She finally beat it and hadn't played the Nintendo ever since.

You know something? As a heavy duty gamer myself I can name off a decent amount of female protagonists in videos that can kick everyone fucking ass three different ways without breaking a sweat. For Anita to say something like, "Only white men play video games and women are objectified in all of them." or something like that is completely wrong. I've met black people, women, a Mexican or two(I think my memory is going bad on me), and the Japanese of both genders definitely play video games. Personally I believe the main reason why she has her comments disabled is because she doesn't want to run the risk of the facade she's created for her fans to dissipate from someone who actually knows a thing or two about video games to prove most if not all of her points wrong. While yes there are probably some people who did send her death/rape threats but it's most likely not in the proportion she says it is. Honestly if she were to do actual research into some of the subjects she talks about, she could probably make a lot more good points than she does.

Pretty spot on.
Β In fact I think a good portion of gamers who didn't join the witchhunt/death threats/ rape threats (to which I feel a large portion of that came from the teenager demograph who think they are protected by the Internet anonymous) look at this who situation and felt the same way. In fact to go one step further, It just look like another case of a Misandry Feminist using something that is popular to plead the same case that I've seen from Angry Tumblr Bloggers who don't understand the definition of Feminism.
She even admitted that she never played a video game nor did any or little research on the medium. The only thing she had was her college degrees, her ability to manipulate a crowd, her followers, and the Internet. And it work in her favor, making the Gaming Community looking like fools for falling into something that was easily avoidable.
And the real funny part about all this is despite the fact Anita demand an equal playing field for both women and men, she exploited herself in that entire incident. Knowing fully well that People would feel sorry for all the backlash she got, because she was a woman.
But then again this is just speculation.Β

Honestly I'll give her this, she is smart. I mean her opinions on video games are fucking stupid, BUT she is smart in the fact that she knows how to get on her side, she knows how to sick the hounds on the right people, and she fucking knows damn well that no matter what she says all of her followers who believe her every fucking word would do ANYTHING she says either because she's a woman or a feminist who is "telling the truth about games". Fun fact. She did a thing involving Bayonetta saying she's some character for men to stare at and she was created by a man. The best part about that crock of bullshit is Bayonetta was created by a woman! Next time just do your research you incoherent moron.

A simple lesson, dear children. One that should be followed. A little research goes along way.

Yea. The same can also be said about her followers. Honestly if it meant that all of the really, REALLY stupid people (Mainly people of whom I have a disdain for) would go away, I'd make the genophage from the Mass Effect series. Call me cynical or whatever I'm not afraid say what I believe and what I might be willing to do.

I don't see the problem at all, I like strong females.
Β
take master chief and cortana from halo, Cortana is Female A.I and 2nd main character in halo story.
with out her, master chief would be died if not for her.Β at halo 4, her death make me sad that I cry inside.

i'm a Gamer and I respect women way they are. if they don't like games that's fine, I have nothing problem with that.

i dont usually see the relevence of putting this out there, but i suppose i should start my comment by informing you guys that im a chick (and i could technically be counted as a gamer, but only because im married to a gigantic gaming dork, otherwise i'd have never been able to afford ALL THE GAMES.)
one of the very fist videogames i ever played was legend of zelda: ocarina of time, in middle school. (before then, i had played tony hawks pro skater and spyro: year of the dragon, and i dont think theyre entirely relevent here.) i was well aware that the main character was a dude and that i was a chick, but it didnt really matter to me. maybe im different, having been such an extreme tomboy at the time, but i found link to be just as easy to relate to as any strong female character, and in some cases, a lot more so.
and maybe that does say something about gender in videogames: i didnt feel that male characters were more dominating, i felt that they were more human. its the way ive felt for a long time about female characters in all manner of pop culture from the 90s and 2000s: even in "reality" females just didnt seem relatable to me, they felt like an entirely different species. my stepmother would tell me to be "more like a girl," and when i asked her what that was supposed to mean, she threw words at me like "make-up" and "dresses" and "dainty." i may be a weakling, but f*** me if i'll ever be "dainty."
i never wanted to be dainty; to me that was like not even bothering to live. dainty people didnt climb into treehouses or have big wheel races. they didnt let pillow fights escalate into nerf-gun-and-foam-sword-fights. and they certainly didnt bother with being the hero, and that was what mattered to me.
i appear to have run out of words to throw at you, but that was what occurred to me. take from it what you wish.

*raises hand* I second this. Despite the pink avatar, I run around playing the action games with the boys for the adventure aspect. It's just as fun for me to play an action RPG and kill tons of monsters with a giant sword, save the girl, and win the day... as a guy character. If it were a girl character I were playing as, I think it would have been more like those PSP lite-novel quasi-dating games and less like the action-hero thing it really was.
Also, Mavericks for the win. *nods at dart gun fights* ;-j

pretty much. granted, at the time at which i started playing OOT, i was completely unaware of the metroid series. i've yet to really delve into it (its next on my list), but, if i may: oh my gosh, a relatable, human female character who, instead of letting the hero save her, is the hero! how revolutionary! XD;
another thing i should add to my last rant, btw, is that daintiness, like heroism, shows itself in both genders. i rest my case.

oh, and i feel its worth mentioning that my stepmom stressed that i needed to be dainty in order to have a man in my life. im pretty sure my husband would never be able to deal with a "dainty girl."

You just got to facepalm @ the logic there:
Anita: I think video game culture shows troublingly sexist trends.
Gamer: No it doesn't! And to prove it, I'm going to threaten you with rape and murder until you make me a sandwich!
*le sigh*

I support strong action heroines 110% and I swear we need more female protagonists! That said, the male empowerment role should not - and will not - go away. We need that to escape and feel good about ourselves.

I hear she gets tons of crap. I don't really know the entire scoop on both sides, so I can't make an educated decision. Though yeah-- I would like more female/black/gay protagonists. The whole Nathan Drake main character is starting to get old.

Β From what I could understand, She was giving her view for seeing the way women are portrayed in games. That's all fine and dandy and would bring some thought-provoking insight. The problem... was that she sounded like she was attacking the gaming industry as a bunch of perverts who used pixelated women as items for said sexual fantasies.Β
Β It didn't help her situation for being a hardcore feminist and going after a dominating industry.

In most games, that's a bit farfetched for her to assume. On the other hand, there's some that she can probably really point out as over sexualizing women. Killer Is Dead, Skullgirls, Dead or Alive 5, etc.

I can see the dead or alive series and killer is dead. Skull girls...not so much. I saw it more for dark humor and Monster girls than 'lets see their top heavy chest defy gravity'

Β I agree with you on the skullgirls issue the designer was questioned with the supposed sexism the game was accused of. The designer replied it was a caricature styleΒ he was going for.
Β
I love this piece it's very simple but it works. ( Just to be the annoying designer thatΒ I am it be cool if Peach's text was pixelated and pink. And the reflection of the tv gave him color.))
