Description Stitches dreamt she was at a prom. Or perhaps a wedding. Or maybe both? And she was older which felt strange upon waking and yet perfectly normal in the dream. She basked in how wonderful the dream felt and how dreams were so bizarre and so real. She was especially glad it wasn’t one of those dreams where she was being chased...

What would you ask a pixie?I am quite possessed by this story of mine...
(updated April 19, 2018)
What would you ask Chenelle about herself, or about pixies at large?

Chenelle

Ecstatic pixie!!!
Happy “Welcoming Day” Chenelle! I have known you two years now!!!

It all started once upon a time while looking at the stars...
Over the past 18 months, one of the most common questions I get when asking others “What would you ask a pixie about herself or pixies at large...” is ‘what is a pixie?’ (Or, “you mean like faeries?”). Followed by, “you mean like Tinkerbell?” In reality, most people don’t think about pixies. So if you do, you are almost as rare as the fae...
The other common question(s) deal with pix

====================================

This piece was another ‘happy accident’. At work there was a scrap of paper and I was just going to make some doodle marks on it to use it up before tossing it in the trash. I wanted especially to make marks to focus on drawing via ‘negative space’. It happened that the very first mark I put on it reminded me of the ‘swoosh’ of hair that she covers her (lack of an) eye with. So even though it was ‘not right’ I went with it. (the point WAS to practice after all...)

(can you discern why/what wasn’t right? Though equally it is 100% correct...)

That is when I decided to NOT draw the face but keep drawing the hairline AROUND the face. Then I drew NOT the eye but the eyebrow ABOVE the eye. Then I drew NOT the eye but the pupil INSIDE the eye. It is interesting that by drawing the space around or inside ‘it’ (drawing the negative space) it really is drawing the same as ‘it’ (the positive space/item you actually want to portray). Just like if you are missing a puzzle piece you know exactly the shape of the piece you are looking for... The whole puzzle is the negative space to the piece that is missing.

After all that I had enough to guide me and I just flat out drew the lips and the outline for the face, neck, etc. I also decided on the necklace just for fun... And when I stopped I was shocked and pleased because it was her, though it looked like a little bit older version of her.

it's very simple, yet has something in it x3

also, it's nice to know the description of the process of getting to that whole piece xD

Thank you for for reading all that! I never know if it is worth it to add all my thoughts or not. I know most people on DA like to look at stuff more than read stuff (and either way is ok).

And I agree! I was shocked how well it turned out for its simplicity. I really am happy with this piece. I feel that the genuine nature of the piece carries it. It literally just spilled out of my pen, not really any thought at all. I know some things I tried have been detailed but lose heart, look forced, and never look as good...

Well, I like to look at stuff too and read something, if something catches my interest or it's fit to read it And I think, that if author of art wrote some art comment, then it's respectable for them to read it and only after it post some comment

I have that sometimes too, when simple thing looks better and it's better appreciated than thing someone have to work a lot. Not always, but pretty often but still, everyone is free to do some experiments and draw everything from their heart, even if it'll turn out better or worse

I love, I love. This is me everyday:
When I see a piece of paper (small or regular printer paper / loose leaf), I’m like “No need to waste paper. I must draw.” I end up coming up with the best / favorite ideas! (Although favorite and best are two different descriptions.) Anyway, I absolutely love experimenting with random lines (almost like a scribble challenge) and your “happy accident” (as quoted by Bob Ross), turned out to be an “outstanding sketch”! A+ A+, 10/10!

Thank you!

Yes I love Bob Ross for sure. I try to watch an episode each night before going to bed and usually I’m out four minutes into it :/

I too am trying to practice when/where I can. I feel most my best work (and a lot of my favorites) are stuff I just wing out on post-it papers or scraps at work. Probably because I am just letting it happen(?) and not stressing about actually ‘making art’...

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, very much appreciated!!!

No problem!

Me too! I just started getting into him a while back ago. (Ironically, when I had to finish my art project.) And don’t worry, I drift off to sleep every time.

It always happens when I’m at school, my art block is gone. XD I’m starting to draw on many post cards / index (or flash) cards. Small drawings, to me, are a commodity that I love dearly.

And no problem. It’s been a while since I ever wrote down a comment. XD

Thank you!

Funny enough I think the lines were confident because I really didn’t actively think about them. So they were 100% genuine/free flowing from the pen so to speak. If I had actually ‘tried’ it would surely have turned out like someone petting in sketchy short lines, lol.

I guess the take away is I really just need to relax more and just let ‘stuff’ happen when doing art...

yes that is something I definitely need to work on I never have confidence with my lines so that is something I definitely should try more as it looks gorgeous on your piece here

That would be awesome. I’ve been studying the fine differences between foxes, wolves, and dogs. They are so similar but very distinct. I want to make a great pic for you!!!
