Description

I'm working on different designs of the Wendigo, a monster in Algonquian mythology which is strongly associated with the coldness of Winter, as well as madness and starvation.

My dad says this is the most scariest designs so far.

I generally find the whole Wendigo myth interesting. It's a harsh, frightening idea, one that could be analysed for hours. Your series brings a new angle to the Wendigo, namely the twisted, but primarily human appearance of the creature.

This one is my favourite. It's something about the thin starved face with the small, very weak jaw that brings a mental chill. I like the way the eyes and nose are slightly asymmetric.

The details, along with the heavily undefined background and edges of the portrait, all bring a powerful impressionist atmosphere.

One detail I'd love to see is a bit more refinement, as the full view makes the portrait's otherwise great scratchy painting technique seem a step from being completely finished as a piece.

All in all, I really like the fresh approach to the subject and the constant reinventing throughout the series. The real horror of the concept piece is brought on by the portrait interacting with the viewer. It's almost as if even its hungry mouth is staring at the viewer.

One wonders at the story this Wendigo would have to share, but hopes even more never to have to find out!

Nice! Reminds me of the movie "Wendigo", directed by Larry Fesseden.

It's an interesting movie. It's a low budget horror movie that can be seen as more of a psychological thing as much as possible a "real" thing. As to if it's a "good" movie, I can't really say, as the point of view of what is a "good" movie tends to vary. I can recommend it, especially for the winter months which we are currently in.

Here's the IMDb page for it: [link]

And here's a trailer for it (the trailer isn't great in quality): [link]

Yeah, it is. But it's interesting to watch. I also recommend "Habit", which is from the same director. It's sort of a vampire story. I say sort of, because the director leaves that decision up to the viewer. Still, but are interesting and hope that you enjoy them.
