Because, it's a file for MikuMikuDance (MMD). The models are always PMD or PMX files, and the stages are usually always X files.

Some of them won't, I dunno why. And they also might not open because of your version of MMD. If you have version 7.39 or higher, then the PMX models will work. But like I said, some of the MLP models don't open, like Derpy for instance.
