In all honesty, I didn't intend to get this detailed. I was going to do several, simple sketches of ocelots in various poses, but then I started adding spots to the first drawing and... well... you get the picture.

hi mitch, this is a very good ocelot. the face looks awesome, it's like he is saying i am watching you, be carefull. the body looks great and some how you got him to really stant out on a white background. awesome job

Oh, you can! It just takes practice. Most of the time, I refer to photographs for reference, so it's not like I think up all of these things myself -- I need something to look at. It's practice, though, and it helps me to grow artistically. You can do the same thing!

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I'm more of a traditional artist and still have yet to figure out how to use GIMP [not sure if you've heard of it, I like to call it the 'poor man's PhotoShop...because it's free and PhotoShop is quite expensive. ]. Mhm, I refer to references when I draw as well. Sometimes I draw from memory then compare to see how accurately I was able to portray what I was trying to draw. Something that has also helped me improve is doodling because with doodles they aren't supposed to be super refined and detailed they're just supposed to be quick sketches and whatnot and they're so fun.

Mmm. Yes, that goes for me, as well. I prefer working traditionally. Regarding GIMP, I've heard of the program. That's nice that it's free! I know what you mean in regards to Photoshop -- it is pretty expensive, although they do have a trial version that you can try out. Corel Painter probably has their own trial version, too.

Those are both good exercises! Doing quick gestures or doodling people/objects/animals/etc. daily is fun and relaxing (or, at least, it should be; ha-ha).
