This drawing became one of my wallpapers on my phone after I saw it on a FMA Facebook page. I'm excited to finally find the original!

I absolutely love Full Metal Alchemist. It is, by far, my favorite anime and manga ever. I love everything about it, but I will always love the first series more.
It's not only because I saw it before Brotherhood, but also because it got me to care about the characters. I saw and experienced the struggles that Ed and Al went through on their 4 year old journey to get their bodies back, because, in some ways, a lot of what they went through could happen in real life.
Everyone ha flaws, and no one was perfect, not even the good guys. In someways they were broken, they were flawed. I actually cared about the homunculi, because of their backstory and the fact that they had been human once and they, most of them anyway, wanted to become human.
A lot of people complained about the ending of the first anime, but I thought it fit very well. It makes us understand that, in real life, there are no "happy" endings, and things won't always work out the way we want it to. It's kind of like the ending to Death Note and Elfen Lied, which also portray how real life society is in some aspects.
The soundtrack is one of my favorite things about it. Bratja, the Atonement, Fate, Parting, Ishbal, Tsumi, Nothingness and Wakare no Kyoku are all great songs. The graphics fit the story as well, giving it a darker tone.
Not to say Brotherhood isn't great and doesn't have it's own great songs or qualities, I just like the first one better. In the end, aren't the ending to both 2003 and Brotherhood similar? Ed and Al sacrifice something for each other, they do end up going their separate ways in some way, and they end up back together in the end.
FMA will always have a special place in my heart and I will love it from now at 18 years old to when I am a decrepit old lady.
BTW: What do you think of the Scar and Lust pairing. I loved their sorta relationship in the first anime and I would have liked to see it in Brotherhood.

Omg, I'm SO sorry for the long reply, but I have a hard time answering big comments which are not in my native language O__e Plus, was kinda busy with university work...
First, yes, yes and YES, after more than 3 years FMA is still my favorite anime/manga of all time and I doubt any other work of such kind will overshadow it. My 'fangirling' phase is long time over, but like I wrote in the comment to this work, it's got its own place in my heart. Besides, my FMA feels were recently raised to the surface, thanks to my friend who's badly obsessed with it now
Can't say anything about TV-1 tho', since I'm not very familiar with its storyline; I've watched half or so of episodes back in 2010 and really liked the whole atmosphere of the anime (especially those stunning backgrounds *__*), but if I recall, it was a pain for me to watch something with a plot very different from the original; besides, I strongly disliked Alphonse's characterization there, since I was a fan of manga!Al (--> Brotherhood!Al); I just think his original version was more strong, adult and with less of that 'angsty' vibe. I also have watched Conqueror of Shambala, and again, while loved the atmoshpere and animation, wasn't impressed by the storyline at all. Maybe I should give TV-1 and CoS a second chance now. c: Bratja is an amazingly beautiful song, and the fact that it's written/sung in my language, Russian, is very heart-warming <3 But I like the English version too, I remember I enjoyed listening to both versions equally.
The only thing I don't like about Brotherhood is its drawing style, especially backgrounds which I think were much more beautiful and neat in TV-1. I also like better how they drew faces in TV-1, in Brotherhood they were kinda rough-looking.
Can't say anything about the Scar/Last pairing for the same reason, lack of TV-1 experience, sorry... ^^'
And thanks a lot for the awesome comment!

You're very welcome.
I really didn't like Brotherhood's animation much either. They looked to bright for something that is supposed to have serious vibes. And I honestly didn't like Scar's representation there. I loved how he looked in the first anime, and Damien Clarke was awesome as his voice actor.
I also loved the serious scenes in the first one.
Nina's death in the seventh episode still haunts me, because it went from no music where Ed was interrogating Tucker and went Tucker said that he and Ed were the same to music where Ed reveals that the talking Chimera is Nina and Alexander and the sad moment where Nina stopped Ed from beating Tucker to death.
Another one is where Nina goes into the alley and meets Scar, going from no music to music and the bloodstain on the wail and the music made it all the more horrifying.
Ed's speech after the Barry the Chopper kidnapping broke my heart. Ed actually cried a couple times in the first series, showing his humanity, especially when....well, you'll find out in episode 33 or 34.
Hughe's death and funeral was portrayed or handled better. I thought it was sadder than in brotherhood. There was no music when he killed Envy then he was killed, making it more suspenseful and cruel in the end.
Also, I didn't like that it was Scar that killed Winry's parents. He had enough sin on his soul to last him 20 lifetimes. It gave Roy more character and more incentive to question the military when he killed Winry's parents and when Marcoh left.
I would have liked Brotherhood a little more if they focused a little more on the Philosopher's stone and the bond between Ed and Al.
I mean, the story is about them and their search for the stone, and later, their attempts to stop the production of a stone.
I feel they found out about it too early and they gave up on it too early, both the brother's and their enemies in the story-line.
I realize that Father was trying to become God and all, but it was the stone that was supposed to be the "true" enemy, and the true objective. I feel like they dropped the issue of it after a while and never mentioned it again.
I know I'm kind of ranting, but if some of the issues were resolved, it would have made this a much better anime.

I love this... You have really captured the bittersweet feeling of the end of the manga and anime when everything was over and yet... it all was beginning.
