“"Monika" is lovely work, first of all. You have so many things down perfectly - the light reflections on the curve of the hair and the eyes are great technical points, for example. One thing I'd suggest is when working with a photo is that you actually don't reproduce the photo exactly! I know this sounds weird, but a bit of "editing" can improve things. The pieces of hair at her jaw line and neck, if erased, wouldn't detract from the rest of your excellent work, in this case. The left arm could have also been re-interpreted as just a shoulder which fades off to the edge - thereby directing the focus on that beautiful face, instead. Also, I have mixed feelings about the clouds in the background. I adore them. However, they distract a little, not only because they are asymmetrical but also because they could be a teeny bit lighter IMO. Imagine them in the whole background, a little less prominent. I am a big fan of adding creative touches to an otherwise "straight" interpretation though. It gives the viewer a little something more! Overall I'd say this is a well-handled, well-rendered, technically good graphic portrait. Great cropping/composition and value range too. "

I feel like this piece could be made stronger by removing the arm behind her head and just having a shoulder there... I also think that the artist shows good imagination with trying to do something in the background rather than just leaving it plain.. Keep up the good work. "

"This is a lovely piece, one can really see the improvements from your earlier work (and the improvements you have made since, you do some amazing work!). You have a good range of values, not afraid of the very dark tones, which is superb. The hair is done really well, maybe the hairline is a bit too generally dark, it would be nice to have a few highlights in there. And I'm not sure about the shirt? hair? flowing down her shoulder, it is a bit hard to make out what it is supposed to be. You have lots of skill, maybe you can conentrate on working out textures nicely as a next project. I love how the focus lies on the eyes and attention is barely driven away from it, and you captured a lovely expression. great work!"
