Everyone's art is a reflection of who they are and how they see the world, I think. Being able to better express what you have in your head does take practice, though. cx Because it's an expression of who you are, what you draw will be different to what anyone else draws, and that's what so amazing about art! That's also why comparing artists doesn't make logical sense, to me. cx
Sorry if I took your comment too seriously, but self-comparison absolutely stumped my artistic growth for a few years, and I'd hate for the same thing to happen to you. :c If you were joking, 100% all good, but if you weren't, I have written a journal brushing (no pun intended c over the subject, if you wanted to give it a squiz sometime. Warning: an art-related rambleI dunno if this'll help anybody but in the offchance it does:
I used to not be able to draw expressions or varying poses at all. My pictures would always consist of poker-faced characters standing rigid and hiding their hands behind their back, probably with a side-fringe because who can be bothered with symmetrical faces, amIright? Essentially, I was avoiding my weaknesses and thus feeding them.
I coloured everything in greylead, because I hated using colour. I thought it complicated the process too much; and when I used colour, it always turned out muddy and gross. I would look at the amazing artists on this website, I would look at what my friends drew, and I would compare myself. People would say that art was subjective, but I remember always thinking, cynically, that the people that said these things were the ones that were amazing at art anyway. It didn't occur to me that maybe that mindset was why.
The comparisons got too much. I stopped drawing for a long time.
The start of las
Um, again, sorry if I took this too seriously, but this is a subject that's hella close to my heart. cx
Hope you have a merry Christmas/holidays! C:

I hope you have a good Christmas too! I don't mind you taking it too seriously. I take it seriously when people say they can't draw stick figures! XD. I was about 60% joking and 40% serious. I know I have to practice a lot more too. My anatomy is really lacking, but I'm getting there! (In two maybe three years)
