Description
This is a Northrop P-61 Black Widow, the first aircraft to be purposely designed as a radar equipped nightfighter. The radar equipment is the reason for the extended nose. Designed in the early forties and influenced heavily by lessons learned by the British on radar equipped fighters, it waswas the largest fighter ever procured for frontline service by the USAF. They were introduced in both Europe and the Pacific almost simultaneously in 1944. Aside from it's designated role as a nightfighter the type also saw action as a night intruder attacking ground targets.

This took ages but it was worth it!
