I know that officially Silver has five quills but really like this look, as well. Because at least when I've tried to draw him... With five quills, his ears tend to get lost from sight and that can be an extra challenge since with animals - even fictional humanoid animals, yes - ear position is part of how they can express their moods. Having only four quills would make it easier for humble struggling fanartists to give him wider range of nonverbal expressions, for sure.
