Well you actually see everything i used in the picture. Some basic black ink and at least one drawing feather. You can also use inkpens, which is easier I think. For paper I use paper for watercolour.
For beginning i just tried to draw with ink like with pencils. It's very similiar only the shading is a bit more tricky with ink. Just start with drawing some basic bodies. Have fun

Dip pens and India ink is also my favorite type of inking.
A couple of years ago I also made such a creature with (fountain pen) ink.
