she?... but it's a man's hands...

I havs a fur collar of a coat which have few fox heads, like here, that I've got in heritage from my mother-in-law I love it, although I can't really use it (nobody can wear these things today - some people might be really mad at you for wearing furs... as if I'm FOR animal abuse...)

No, it is not a man's hand. May be the black make-up make it look more masculine ? As a street performer, she probably knows how to jungle, so it makes for nervous hands.
When I was a child I was both fascinated, digusted and frightened by those dead animals around bourgeois coats collars...For me it was the perfect touch on this witch attire.

fantastic image my dear, the anxiety in the motion blur is perfect!

She is good I think because she is a street performer, I beleive she belongs to a small company. I expected her to start juggling but no, and it was in the crowd anyway.

I am surprised it was so spontaneous, becuase it turned out so perfectly, but then, sometimes the best shots are those we don't plan

I dont plan a lot ; but I try to be prepared when I go to an event (and my back ache because I have this big photo bag).
The other shot (of her face) I like the compo a lot, but it is not sharp, slightly out of focus. My gear is very good professionnal stuff, second or third hand, I buy good lenses, cheap and...old and heavy. Hence, the focus is slow.

Haha, god, I know, the equipment is soo heavy! For me even just the camera + lens gets up to 3kg (depending on the lens) which is just crazy. Add the tripod and the flash to that and you need an assistant just to get around
I love the other image, it has incredible composition and the moment captured is just awesome, but you are right, the lack of focus, at least in one area, makes the image linger somehow, like it needs an anchor. Like it has here, the focus on the hand pulls everything together

I dont use flashes on the spot. I have studio flashes but no hand held flashes, I prefer available light even when very low (and it was low).
And I just hate the flash on the camera, I see nothing good in it.
Yes, I totally share your analysis. I put this portrait here only because I loved her expression, rolling eyes in a blackened face.

You know, I used to be the same, but since I read strobist.com, I have become a convert to carrying one off-camera flash when I go out, just in case. He gets amazing results in so many situations, have a look at that website, there is a lot of really interesting info
But yes, on-camera flash, horrible!

Yes I read this site sometimes ! But hell, a off camera flash would broke the camel back I think.
I recently converted from prime-lense die-hard I was during ages to carrying a zoom : just because I started to do shots of shows, an running everywhere for feet-framing is not possible. Hence the heavier bag...
Now I try to use studio flashes to be able to work home during winter .

The hands and fruit are great but I don't appreciate the fox fur around her shoulders.
My mother has one in the '40s. I didn't know they were still used.
It this the wiched witch in Snowhite?

When I was a child the animals ( not foxes, smaller beasties) with head and all on coats digusted and frightened me...I think the girl put them on her costume for this effect on her witch attire. I wanted a full body shot but it was not easy in the crowd, I have her face and hands quite ok but the full body shot is not very satisfying.
