Ahh, I'm trying to animate too. Mostly people though.

Lately I've been trying to animate hair by studying wind. (aka shoving random objects in front of my fan)

Yeah, observing things in real life is one of the best lessons an artist can have, no matter what one is trying to create. Keep at it Hair is difficult. Are you learning to animate pixel art or some other art?
