Description And finally, for the finale--tah dah! More Phantom art! This one I did in part for a contest of 100 themes, this one is number 5. "Seeking Solace", and partly because I love to do Phantom art. It was done in pencil and then watercolored on top of it. This is Erik sitting on the roof of the Opera Populaire, looking out over Paris. I thought this would be appropriate for the theme because it seems like this would be one of the few places he could find real peace. His lair would remind him too much of his solitude and how much he's cut off from the world. Sitting on the roof keeps him apart, but also kind of connects him to the humanity below.

Um, the scan isn't so hot, sorry guys. I'm working on getting another one.

Erik belongs to a whole bunch of people that arn't me...alas...

nicely done. Love the overall monochrome feel. Black and white may seem lonesome, but now it seems to bring a sense of peace from the clutter of color.

Hahaha, technically the Eiffel Tower wouldn't have been built then (and is waaaay in a different direction)--but that anal-retentive historical nitpick aside, this is a pretty awesome piece! I love your creativity on the building's facade and the sky and the moon and... very nice!

MissCyraf In reply to hadesdecharon [2011-06-01 03:53:17 +0000 UTC]

You are absolutely correct, I did some research (after doing the painting) and had a d'oh! moment. Ah well, at least one can identify it as Paris if they're not familiar with the story (bad excuse, lol). But anyway, thanks!

hadesdecharon In reply to MissCyraf [2011-06-01 04:59:34 +0000 UTC]

It's so true--I think that's the Eiffel Tower's sole purpose in life: to identify Paris to those who aren't as obsessed as others *koffs*

Beautiful picture! I love the detail! You have a very nice technique... Only Im wondering if you ae basing it off the movie or the stage show? I only ask because the Eiffel Tower wasn't built till 1889... and the movie is based in 1870 (which is also historically incorrect cause of the Franco-Prussian War which Joel decided to... ignore.. :S.. ) and the stage show is based in 1881... which would also make the Eiffel Tower non-existant.

... ... ...

Yanno what? Ignore me. Im a France freak! LMFAO!

MissCyraf In reply to LividianofAstyr [2008-03-23 04:51:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I know the Eiffel Tower wasn't built yet, studied it in my architecture class. but i wanted to include it anyway to show that it was paris, and because ( ) i just really wanted to paint it to make the pic more dramatic, hahaha. The pic, though, was leaning more towards the movie as far as inspiration goes. I was writing a fanfic about it at the time of painting the pic and kind of developed my own character of the phantom, but the movie was my first introduction to Phantom of the Opera. Love the book too. OK, i've now officially talked your ear off...sorry about that...Thanks for the comment! Glad you like the pic!

Ah thats no prob at all! Its really nice to meet other phans! The movie was also my introduction... about... Must be four years ago now. I have seen the show, twice in London (third time comin in July ) - I have read both the Gaston Leroux and Susan Kay books ( looove looove this novel). I own lots of other movies too... and have a Phantom shrine in my room - cause Im sad like that lmao. hheehee... Sorry about the history lesson. Im awful strange like that. Lol! Picture still rocks either way! ^_^! Keep up the good work!
