I hated professors' surprises. The worst was always "By the way, we uploaded homework today (Friday) because we forgot to post it at the beginning of the week, and it's not on the syllabus, and it's due Monday. I realize this means you'll only have the weekend to do it, but it's not like you were going to do anything besides homework over the weekend anyway, right? Great!" That happened more than once... grrrr
