this game's original target audience IS middle or high scoolers. the main theme of the persona series is human phyche (which is obvious when you think about it) and about finding your true self. which is a theme common in a lot of games aimed st childern, and persona does it VERY well.
Its no fallout or GTA5 or shit like that. It contains some maturre themes but doesn't go over the top. its just enough to be somewhat realistic.
the MAIN dray of the persona and SMT series in the west is its OVERWHELMING religious themes. no matter how hard, they can't REALLY censor the personas. If you know anything about japan, they LOVE playing around with religious charecters that nobody in thier right mind would DARE doing. which includes drawing God, lucider, and jesus in hentai. so they really don't give a fuck about you summoning demons to fight.Â
The only reason SMT hasn't been flaked is because of its extreame niche status. at least persona isn't AS blatent on its religios undertones.
