Yes this is what you have to mention about your own character, however you have to do it in a way that is not boring (a list, I've seen a lot of them and they are a boring growing problem) and do it like a book tell their story and accidentally tell them their weaknesses and strengths without them knowing, and this will make them enjoy what they are reading and they'll keep reading and when they realize they will have finished reading through your own character's story and you have filled them with information about your character.

But writing a story might also bore them. It really depends on what kind of roleplay you're joining. If it's a simple one, then a list might be more appropriate. But if it's a detailed one, then yes, make it detailed.
