I hope your companion didn't have to go through anything too painful, the idea of that happening to my own two cats terrifies me.
Also, the atmosphere in this illustration is intense. You have some serious composition skills.

I love how illustrative your work is, it tells stories so well.
This one in particular hits home for me, because I've had to say goodbye to two of my cats a couple years ago. Both had to be put down because of kidney failure.
I've always wanted to paint tributes for them, and none of them seemed to do them justice.
I REALLY love this though, it shows the afterlife as a journey, really with a mythological look to it. (I think it's Egyptian mythology I'm thinking of? Which would be rather fitting for a cat, now that I think of it.)

I think the myth is Greek but it could be Egyptian as well.
I think a lot of mythology has similar elements.
