Oh look, a piece that I give a somewhat proper title to, and it's for a MEME

I used to be brooke9000 back on Deviantart, then I hopped to smackjeeves, back here as Rajahh, then Tumblr, and now...

Granted I still use Tumblr but I've done quite a lot of jumping around. I'm trying to stick with it at this point. But I felt it important I do something like this, especially since I've been experimental lately with painting styles.

I did make quite a few changes instead of just redrawing the old artwork though. The most obvious: gave it a background. The original piece was supposed to be based on a Victorian Gothic Aesthetic (and of course I didn't use references or resources properly back then) so I changed the dress fashion into something that still fit the palette a bit more but was more the proper clothing. Second: changed the flower. The original flower is supposed to be a lily but they just tend to be too big to be wearing on your sternum, so I made it a simple carnation. Changed the crown of course, and finally, made the color palette more pleasing to look at and less jarring than the weird yellow from the original picture.

Stylistically, as is obvious, I fell a little out of love with drawing anime, and don't watch anime/read manga nearly as much as I used to. I still enjoy a couple shows every now and then but I wanted to move on to something semi-realistic. I still definitely see anime and manga drawings as a good source of inspiration, mainly in the color palettes they can make and the freedom and character expression they convey.

Overall, this was a lot of fun, and made me feel better about where I am today. I think I'll do another next year, where I pick another piece from my gallery I made 10 years ago. I most likely also be sticking with this painting style for a while~ Thanks be to you if you read all this!
