What started off as simply more practice drawing Big Mac turned into this.It's been almost two weeks since this started. Basically I'm practicing a new lineart style, a lot more detailed than what I'm used to. A friend of mine always describes my style as "very Rankin-Bass", even here. I'm pretty happy with how this looks, and I want to continue with this style, maybe branch off to full body linearts, more exaggerated expressions, and maybe (gasp) whole scenes! But for now, I need a break.
I was constantly referencing vectors and show stills so that I could retain as much of the spirit of their original looks as possible while injecting them into this style. I wonder if the color values should change too, since the different lineart styles between here and the show do alter the balance of colors. For now, though, I just copied the exact color scheme from stills.
Also, no idea why half the characters have sad faces. I guess I was kinda mellow when I made them. And no, I don't know why Pipsqueak looks like that. Just don't ask. :U

Maybe; perhaps this triggers the Uncanny Valley for them, rendering these normally stylized ponies with high detail in order to add a touch of realism.

Scary? Heh. Guess it's hard to imagine cute little cartoon ponies actually looking real. If we were to ever able to discover the real planet of Equestria in this infinite universe, I think you hit the mark on how they might appear, but that's just my opinion. Still show-like, but also life-like, with the age factor added in.
Hope to see more, I'm not scared.

Heehee, figured they'd look kinda creepy; I prolly went a bit too far towards realism, so Uncanny Valley starts kicking in. But thank you very much for the compliment! ^^

I'm definitely not a fan of realistic pony renditions, as I feel like their cartoony style is a key part of their appearance. Having said that, you demonstrated quite a lot of skill with this rendition, and Big Mac in particular has a very Trigun feel to him here. These characters have the look and feel of some of the grittier comic artists, and your art is easily on par with the professionals. I don't have to like the style to see just how good this is

Yeah, I'm usually not a fan of that either, though sometimes I do like how creative some artists can be with pony realism.
And Oh my God, I can't believe how right you are about Big Mac's Trigun look! XD I wasn't aiming for that at all, but I love Trigun so much anyway so that just makes me happy. And you made my day with complimenting the quality here; there's issues here and there, of course, and this thing took me a VERY long time to actually complete. Even if I changed nothing about this style, I'd need a LOT more practice with it before I can draw fast enough to be considered a professional. Sometimes it's amazing how some comic book artists can crank out amazing pieces of work in such short time, but I think it all comes down to practice.
