Description I haven't tried my hand at the most popular X-Man in a long long time so I figured I'm overdue. I must admit that I never really appreciated Wolverine till I started reading the classic comics. Maybe I was prejudiced by the fact that he's like everybody's favorite Marvel character. Anyhow, even though he won't be a leader (due to his inability to keep a level head in combat or stay outta berserker rage), he proves himself to be very important to the cohesion of the group. He may have fought Cyke the professor a lot but when Storm was in charge he was very supportive. Anyhow, since I like the angry little man a lot more now I decided to draw him and try a little different style than my usual.

Huh... that's really good work there! Logan's face definately shows your unique creativity when observing your artwork, and the color in his arms are done very well... is his face suppose to be a different tone though? Nice work.

Glad you like it. Actually, I used the same pallet for both the arms and face but there's more brown in the arm and less black lines.

A very excellent, well done, and inspirational rendition of Wolverine. I believe he has most recently reverted to this costume design. You know hes a member of the Avengers now right?

I know he was part of the New Avengers for a while but in all the new X-Men comics like the recent Academy-X stuff he's still with the X-Men. And he's with the X-Men in the Marvel Civil War too. If he went back to the Avengers it must have been very recent.

It is different from your norm, though I can't quite place how. I like it, though.

Well, my style is moving back towards comic from manga, I've added more black ink than usual (with a different tool), and I'm using a new technique for painting. The technique makes the colors and contrast different and uploading them as .png files preserves that color much better than the .jpg files that I used to use.

"More realsitic" was I think what was going around in the back of my head. I do for some reason equate western superhero comic art as being more "realistic" for some reason (George Perez is my favorite), even though it's becoming more and more of a hybrid. That and the manga backgrounds generally blow the ones in western comics away. I do like this, though.

Well, a lot of your cannon anime archetypes are very unrealistic looking. Though, modern western comic style has moved away from the more simple and realistic style of the golden era to a more overstated and stylized look. Obviously there is the fusion and western manga styles but the basic western comic style has changed along with coloring to make eye candy more important compared to storytelling. In the past nobody could afford the kinds of visuals comics have today (can you imagine Will Eisner's "the Spirit" done like Frank Miller's "Sin City"?). But today it has to compete with movies and other visual media and so while there is still great stuff out there there is also visually amazing pulp fiction.
