Wait -- I could be wrong about that. The painting is older than I thought (1942). I don't know whether it's in the public domain now or not.

Ah, yes -- In the U.S., works enter the public domain 70 years after the death of the creator (which, in Hopper's case, would make Nighthawks public domain in 2037). In Canada and most other countries, it's 50 years (2017) -- so no, Nighthawks isn't in the public domain.
You wouldn't want someone modifying your work and passing it off as their own within your lifetime or shortly after your death. I'd take this down if I were you.

Hello ~vmulligan, thanks for the information. I have searched in the internet and the image is under "fair use" by the The Art Institute of Chicago.
My modifed image is not for commercial use. And if you search here at DeviantArt, you will find a lot of "Nighthawks" images, that would be modifed.
