Wow! A piece of art in my gallery that actually DOESN'T feature a sexy woman with her midriff bare! I know, I can't believe it either! This is a new series that pays tribute to heroes and warriors (and sometimes battles) that have been forgotten or at least aren't very widely known.

Fireman 2nd Class Telesforo Trinidad was a U.S. Naval seaman who served aboard the USS San Diego (formally the USS California) during the opening months of the First World War, still a good while before the U.S. would become involved.

On January 21st, 1915, while traversing through Mexican waters, the boilers in the San Diego's No. 2 and No. 3 firerooms exploded. Despite suffering from severe burns himself, Fireman Trinidad nonetheless proceeded to rescue two injured crewmen, one from each fireroom. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for the deed. one of the first Asian-American servicemen (and so far the only Asian-American sailor) to receive it.

Rear Admiral (then Ensign) Robert Cary was awarded the same honor for similar heroic action during the event.
