The topology is driving me nuts on that right head....so bad D:, but the actual shape looks great for both.
Your topology though is obviously much better, and the shape.

The default head is huge as it is; and your head's adorable, but the size would ruin it.

I like making heads for IMVU. I even made a few hidden commissions for peoples' actual faces (used an alternate texture to make it look more realistic). :3 But I make tons of cartoony stuff. I like this shape a lot, though.
^o^ I will buy three when it comes out. One for me and two for my friends.

nice work so far on the head. the only concern i have is if your going to be animating the face. because you have a lot of unnecesary tris in your model mainly the mail head. try to either convert them all to tris or all quads and avoid n-side completetly wich i didnt see so thats good. its just when you animate (expecially if your rigging the face for expressions) it is best if you have only have one type of geomitry. in school we were told to model with quads with only 5% of them being tris if it higher we get 10% off ever 1% more then the 5%. i know this is a personal project but you may want to get in to the habbit. the edge flow on the female is very good. i hope i didnt offend witht the critiques, it wasnt my intension if it did. its just the best way to learn is to get critiques if you ever need assistance with 3d just note me. i will be glad to help you.
