While I most definitely do not think Zeke should have been disfigured, maybe cuffed on the ear, I also think Zeke did push Jasper too far. Jasper should not, under any circumstances, have reacted the way he did. But, I also think Zeke is in the wrong here too, since he has been pushing Jasper's buttons since day 1. Both parties here have done shitty things, but Jasper took it way too far sadly.

while it's fine to like jasper as a character, people really should know by now that jasper is not the good guy in this comic and that we are supposed to judge his character critically by his actions, and not blindly favor him simply because everything is from his perspective. it's useful that we know his inner thoughts and intentions, but it's obvious that miiroku does not condone his actions, but condemns them, despite feeling empathy or understanding him. jasper's an asshole, and a very intriguing character, but nothing justifies his actions right here.

idk about you but a grown adult smacking the hell out of a child/teenager and possibly permanently scarring them is a drastic overreaction over the child/teenager saying mean things. That’s child abuse. There is no “both sides” here. Nothing he said justified getting scarred like this.

Hmm...I’m on the fence here. Zeke definitely should not have been hit like this, at the most maybe a cuff on the ear, but he was literally poking (more like jabbing) a sleeping bear, trying to make it angry. It’s not fair to say Jasper can’t hunt if he is the one stealing his kills and scaring his away. He knew Jasper has a very short temper. I’m sure he didn’t expect this though. Again, I’m not saying he deserved to have his face sliced, child abuse is in no way justified, but he’s not exactly innocent either. (Although if he were a human, and I was Jasper, I would have most certainly slapped him here if he dared to say that I was useless and nobody wanted me around after I had helped keep him safe and fed. But I don’t have claws. Cat slapping without claws isn’t really a thing.)
But also, define “abuse” in general, not in this comic. If someone rightfully deserved a spanking or a light smack on the head, would that REALLY be abuse? Some kids don’t learn just by sending them to their room or timeout and just act out more. Of course this practice doesn’t usually work out for mentally unstable kids and shouldn’t be used often in anyway shape or form. I myself only got spanked once in my life when I threw a fit and hit my dad when I was little. I learned from that. But I don’t think Jasper has the ability to see how mentally unstable Zeke is here.
With Jasper...I think he’s at the end of his rope with Zeke. Zeke wasn’t taking this whole thing seriously in the beginning, which made Jasper have to be harsh to wake him up and face his new reality in order for him to be able to survive as well as himself and Fae. Joking around and not taking things seriously gets you killed. And then he ruined Jasper’s hunt by screeching, which tbh, would have pissed me off as well. I might not have yelled, but I don’t have Jasper’s temper. And then Zeke ran off still yelling, immediately running into a big mean dog that was probably attracted to all the screeching everyone was doing (minus Fae, Fae is pure and innocent), which resulted in him and Fae almost getting killed. Jasper did end up saving them there, although he didn’t want to do it for Zeke. It was really only for Fae. I would be mad about that too (in Zeke’s defense) BUT it’s a freaking bloody apocalypse. I don’t think a lot of rational people who want to live would risk their own sakes for a child whom they view as a deadweight. And Jasper really doesn’t have to stay with the group to survive. He is fit to survive alone.
One thing we ALL can agree on though: Jasper should not pursue a career in babysitting.

Zeke pushed buttons. One of the buttons caused a reaction (An overboard reaction, but hell, Zeke was annoying at the beginning. He never took anything seriously, was noisy enough to ATTRACT them, ruined hunts, etc) and telling Jasper he was usless, after he saved their tails, fed them and gave them shelter? I'd be pretty pissed (Not scarring a kid pissed, but a clip 'round the lug pissed)
