Jidai Matsuri, or Festival of the Ages, Kyoto Japan 10.23.2011.

As I mentioned in [link] we found ourselves back where the festival participants were congregating waiting for the procession to begin. All of a sudden the horses came in and we literally found ourselves surrounded by samurai. I love horses, so I was actually pretty excited.

I'm by no means a scholar of Japanese history, but I do love reading about it. Right now, in fact, I'm currently reading two books simultaneously: The Legends of the Samurai and The Tokaido Road. So I was thrilled to be able to go to the Matsuri and equally excited to see all these historical period costumes up close.
