Jo Jo is a stray cat that decided that she wanted to be MY cat- she brings me presents, (chipmunks, birds, ground moles and even a weasel one time!) talks to me, purrs and follows me around while gardening....(she's a smart cat, knows a sucker when she sees one-) anyway, she had her babies one week ago and here is the family portrait, will get the kitties up asap, two Calicos, two Tortoise Shells, one 'almost' tortie, (mostly black with a little color,) and one Tiger/white mix. (My hubby jokes that the tiger kittie is male, since he needs a GPS to find a nipple at feeding time!) One of the Calicos has one eye open, the rest none; and someone told me that short hair cats open their eyes about 8 days old and long fur cats at about 12 days old. Anyone know if this is true?Related content

Actually kittens will open their eyes at different times...long or short haired. Some are early and some are late but it does seem in my experience that once one opens the others follow. But a week sounds about right for eyes opening...they still won't see well for a few days though. VERY cute kitties! Makes me miss having baby kitties

Thank you!! I just had a thought about a month before the momma cat showed up. "Lord, it would be nice to see kittens grow up." And He definitely heard me!! LOL. Actually had to buy another camera, I burned out the flash on my not-so-old one.

So true!!! And do they grow up fast!!! this summer they will be two years old. I actually burned out the flash in my digital camera taking pictures of them, LOL.

Yes, we were suprised at six kittens, (glad there was not more) but I guess she got to our house and some care in enough time for her & kitties to be healthy. Thanks for commenting, I enjoy chatting pets with you!

Thank you- six kittens. Mama is Jo-Jo, and left to right are: Molly Maguire, Buffy the Stuffed Mousie Slayer, The Divine Miss Emmy, Nessie, (after the Loch Ness monster) Lady Zoey & Mr. Sid. Molly & Nessie went to my brother's house and I have the rest. Almost a year old, short one month, and so special it defies words...where does time go?!

you have names for all of them that is pretty good they grow much too fast and that is certainly a lot of kittens.lots of luck caring for them all

Oh so precious My female cat had 5 babies, and one of them was long fur. He opened his eyes later than the others, plus he was week or two behind the other kittens in walking, climbing and eating.

The babies are almost 6 months old now, and only one is behind the rest, Miss Emmy, but she is a happy and healthy cat, so glad for that! Do you still have all five babies? How old are they now? My mama cat had 6 babies, and I still have four, can't give them up now!!!

Hopefully Annu got taken in by another family- it does happen! Some cats are just 'Wanderers' and go from home to home. I have had several over the years- they stay a few months and then they are gone. It's a cat thing.

There is no way I could refuse a hungry cat! Anyway, found a home for two of the kitties, but guess the rest are mine now. I will be glad when they get about 6 months old and calm down a bit they are soooo playful right now! I will need to replace all my curtains, I'm sure.

That's a myth, they all open their eyes at about the same time, no exact science there! The smush-faced breeds - some of which have long hair - can be a bit slower, but it has nothing to do with the fur length, just bone and muscle development!

I've heard that the long-haired cats are slower in development so it could be true.

btw will you castrate JoJo after this? Idk how it would work with a stray cat but I guess it would be better to(?)
I hope you'll find a great home for the kitties, aaaw nooo I have two cats myself and can't get another one but it's pretty hard to stay strong while they are all too cute xD

I am going to get Jo Jo spayed, it will be better for her health (and my sanity!)if she doesn't have any more babies. Most of them are opening their eyes today, so all short hair, I guess. I have to stop myself from running in every 5 minutes to oooh and aaah but Jo Jo puts up with me. LOL

They are precious!!! I will hate to give them up, but seven cats in a small home? And I already have two that were strays as well. We want to keep one of the calicos, but don't know which one yet.

I know!!! I want both calicos and the one tortie at least- LOL- my hubby is getting wide-eyed but if I insisted, he'd give in. But I will do my best to find good homes for the lil' darlins
