Description Here’s another thing I did of Gordon. He’s kinda cool and I knew I had to do one of him eventually. Looking all grumpy and cross and everything else lol.

In my AU, Gordon was built in 1910, however was kept a secret due to the worrying the GNR had with if Gordon could be able to work properly. He didn’t, and the men at Doncaster kept trying to perfect him, but when the First World War came, he was shuffled to the side and remained hidden and only production began on him again in 1919, when Sir Nigel Gresley tried perfecting his design. He pretty much did and revealed him to the public as he ‘Shooting Star’, no number but showing he was the first perfected pacific.

However, after the grouping in 1923, the LNER had no interest in keeping him and ordered for him to be scrapped and to be used as spare parts for the later Pacifics. Nigel Gresley, the designer of the class had grown fond of Gordon and didn’t want one of his prize possessions go to pieces after all his hard work, originally Gordon was meant to go to the Carrag and Pleckness Railway in Thesang Island, however, complications arise from it and Gordon was sent to the North Western Railway on the Isle of Sodor. Nigel Gresley was extremely grateful for this, so much so he ordered for Shooting Star’s name to change into King Gordon of Sodor, named after the King who reclaimed Sodor from England.

King Gordon was extremely boastful and prideful when coming to Sodor, so much so that he caused a little mishap with not stopping at Vicarstown on his returning test train full of all the directors and inspectors and ran all along the old Furness line until stopping at Kents Bank, in which Edward had to come and take the train whilst King Gordon slunk all the way back to Vicarstown, tender-first.

For his punishment, his new nameplates weren’t given to him and he was later painted NWR blue like the rest with the number four on his sides. He was nicknamed Gordon as result to not having his nameplates.

Gordon pulled the Wild Nor’ Wester permanently from 1923, to 1938, in which all named trains were pretty much cancelled during the Second World War. Unlike the others at the time, Gordon was sent to the back of the shed, due to how massive he was, the NWR thought him too valuable and kept him inside the sheds most of the first part of the war. However, Gordon was soon let out during 1943 and after the war had ended, he was sent to be overhauled in 1947 and came out right after the grouping. Originally, he was meant to have his paint swapped to the BR Express Blue at the time, but it was declined with the BR allowing the North Western Region to keep their older liveries.

Gordon would stay working on the Wild Nor’ Wester but in 1967 he was sent to London, in which he saw the brutality of what BR were doing to the steam engines. In a last stitch effort, Gordon took leadership of the final evacuation of steam engines escaping to Thesang Region, where they were allowing all engines to come and work for them. Most of it succeeded and Gordon returned home as a hero to all.

Later in 1975, Gordon would be given his nameplates as a kind gesture from the Duke of Boxford, who had taken a liken to the big engine. Gordon was most proud of this but remained with keeping his name as Gordon just to make it easier for the other engines.

Later in 1986, Gordon would be challenged by the advent of the HSTs who were taking the mainland mainlines by storm and Gordon showing his age still wanted to prove he could still pull the express. But managed to damage himself in the process, however, Stephen Hatt, decided he would rebuild Gordon to help challenge the engines and Gordon went from a A0 to an A3, with a higher boiler pressure and new cylinders, however, only had the two instead of the three due to not really needing them. Gordon returned to steam and gave Pip and Emma a run for their money as he took claim to the express once again.

However, in 2011, Gordon decided to retire from the express and give it up to Pip and Emma which are to take it over. Gordon now pulls the slower trains and even gained a new passenger service will his old Wild Nor’ Wester coaches which served the most important stations whilst serving the passengers with dining service.

Gordon is always known as ‘Gordon’ to his friends and North Western family on Sodor but because his actions at the end of the modernisation plan and the scrapage of steam locomotives, he’s always been known by many as ‘King Gordon’. Most even claim him to be a heavy representative to the steam locomotives as a whole in Britain! This artwork, depicts him in that time period where he helped many of kind, showing his boldness and bravery in saving many lives of engines from the advent of diesels and encouraging them to move forward to a new life.
