Stunning artwork full of depth and action. Is there a story behind this battle? The feline character looks especially ferocious.

Yea, The cat character came from playing waay to much Skyrim. A story behind this .... hmmmm never thought of it.... they're changing toward that city made of badly painted towers and bridges haha! Your typical seige painting

SKYRIMMMMMMM!!!! Haha! I guess just alittle. Ah but there's where you're wrong, friend! Anyone one can paint like me given the drive, know-how and patience, I used to the worse student in my art class, I was arrogant and I thought I had all the talent in the world, until I became the first student in 25 years(or was it 28?) to almost fail foundation year! I learnt my lesson the hard way and I worked hard at drawing for years the come! Thus I concluded that if I was really talented I wouldn't have to work so hard for 5 looooong years to get to my current standard. I'd have to work hard for a few months and POOF! Here I am...

What I'm trying to say is theres no thing as talent or superiority or whatever, only honest hardwork. And a healthy amount of midnight oil.

So Jellandha, please dont say "I can't paint like you can" because you can! You just need to work on it!

True words and honest encouragement for anyone. Would you tell me more about how you paint the depth into your characters and the background city to give such a grand sense of perspective?

Always glad to help!

Hmmmmmm.... I've been looking through your stuff for a while now and I think there are three things you can improve on (you might want to do your own research after reading this comment, there's alot I have to tell)

1) You need more knowledge of nature so try studying: how plants grow and why they grow the way they do, why do animals look the way they do, theories of evolution, skeletal anatomy, muscular anatomy, cloth dynamics (how cloth folds and why they fold the way they do.)

2) You need to know more about the way light works, I know light is physics subject, but art and science are often one and the same. Read up on the behavioral patterns of light, how they reflect, deflect, defuse, cast shadows both soft and hard and created "ambient occlusion" You should also go outside and draw what you see benches, trees, restaurants, cars yada yada yada using what research materials you've gathered. This way you'll also learn a bit about perspective!

3) Read up on general knowledge and philosophy. This may not seem relevant but believe me they are general knowledge will make you a more creative person, and philosophy like art is about understanding, understanding what? Understanding EVERYTHING around you. And that is what makes one's art good, understanding the whys and the hows.

I know it alot to learn, but take your time with this art should not be rushed. Attend as many workshops and seminars as you can, and turn out as many high quality pantings as you can. Then let nature do the rest, skill needs no motivation if you very hard and you want it really bad, it'll come to you on its own.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write all that fantastic advice. Anatomy is my greatest bane. I can stare at pictures of creatures all day but still find myself unable to satisfactorily mimick what I see. Foreshortening is especially troublesome. I'll try to take some time to fill sketchbooks with studies. The allure of easy, lazy digital painting removed me from pencils and erasers years ago.

In fact, there are short classes at my local college for different media such as watercolour or landscape sketching. I'll have to look into attending.

My appreciation for your help.

Anatomy is my greatest weakness too, I've always been kinda bad at it. Dont know why. As for foreshortening I'm alright, not nearly as good as some of my friends are... MAN! They can paint LIKE A BOSS!! I've had the same problem I don't use oil paints anymore digital painting has spoiled me too much haha!

Oh yea do go for those classes, if the teacher is good, you'll benefit like crazy!

You're welcome if you need anymore help just P.M. me I'll see what I can do to help you out alittle
