Description Another headache render, there's so mane reflections and refractions my poor PC was starting to smoke .
The scene set is Opus Magnum modelled in DAZ 4.6, rendered in Luxrender 1.3dev using LUXUS.

The jar, hour glass, bottle and crystal ball are full non-architectural glass2 with chromatic dispersion, The spectacles and magnifying glass are non-architectural with out chromatic dispersion. The bottle, hour glass and jar are flint glass (IOR 1.56) and the crystal ball is crystal (IOR 2.00). Custom normal maps were created for the table, hour glass, scroll, back wall, furnace and furnace bucket using the awesome shader map 2 available here shadermap.com/home/

Hope you like it.

An exemplary render, ready for a textbook or tut, I’d say!

In Lokei’s critique, I disagree with too bright and too busy.

If you look at hall-of-fame pieces at places like the cgsociety ,
you’ll notice that, generally, the more clutter, the better rated.

But, the candles?
To my eye, what could be improved is the luminous structure of the flames.

Thanks for the comments, I wont be re-rendering it, it takes far to long to render these kind of images and I generally don't do post work.

you're welcome, I hope you didn't think I was being harsh and I don't blame you for not wanting to re-render that. Good work!

Amazing!  I can't imagine the work that went into this....and, actually don't understand most of your explanation of the setup.

Vanguard-Studio [2013-07-17 19:19:24 +0000 UTC]

A true tour de force study in refraction / reflection. Nearly every object could be an interesting render all to themselves. I particularly love the jar on the far right's refraction on the liquid surface.

It`s actually a jar of sand or some kind of grain. These kind of render can take days and to to honest it could of easily go on for longer than I allowed. Not looking forward to my electricity bill.

SickleYield [2013-07-17 17:35:50 +0000 UTC]

MODELED in DS4.6?  You mean that entire thing is made from primitives?

It's hard to do masses of grains/sand and that's a nice accomplishment in a render as well.

It's a gorgeous-looking scene.  Just very rich and real-feeling.  I adore cluttered still-lifes.

SickleYield In reply to MichaelG1234 [2013-07-17 21:24:40 +0000 UTC]

As far as I know you can't create polygons in DS.  How the heck did you get the shapes from prims, with d-formers?

MichaelG1234 In reply to SickleYield [2013-07-18 07:36:30 +0000 UTC]

Think you miss-understand me or im not explaining very well. This is a pre-made set called "Opus Magnum", maybe I should not have used the word modelled, more like set up I guess.

SickleYield In reply to MichaelG1234 [2013-07-18 17:33:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh ok!  Yes, it was the word modelled that confused me.
